Hi,

the Fischmarkt, or fish market, is a Hamburg must-see. On Sunday mornings, beginning from five in the morning, the fresh catch of the day as well as assorted fish and seafood specialties are available in a typical Hamburg port ambience. What used to be a market for fishermen to sell their fresh catch is now of course a place for professional salesmen, but nevertheless the Fischmarkt still has a typical charm that draws many visitors and lots of hungry St. Pauli party people every weekend - there's no better way to start your day on Sunday than with some fresh fish after you've partied through the night on St. Pauli or the Reeperbahn.

Ship welcoming station - "Welcome to Hamburg"

In front of the bridge is a platform with huge loudspeakers, from which the ships are greeted. From the cabin each incoming and outgoing ship is greeted with the help of a computer system or Compact Cassettes. Over 150 national anthems and about 45 languages of seafaring nations are saved on a hard disk.

And here is one of the most known Captains of the world in his cabin at work !

For those who like web cams here a link to the web cam at Willkomm Höft

All shots with 5DMkII and EF 2.0/135mmL. Last one with 4/24-105mmL. Text out of the respective Internet sides.

Cool reportage, thanx for the guide.

Hamburg is usually only a City you pass when going to the continent when
coming by car from Sweden. Perhaps is is worth a longer stop.

excellent set - these pictures show typical activities as "colorpaintings" in the early morning, if you´d be a painter, i´d say your 2nd image-layer is outstanding

i agree fully about the ranking of Hamburg
