Vrsic (1611m) is the highest Slovenian road pass (the highest in the Eastern Julian Alps), which connects Gorenjska region with Trenta. Road through the pass was built between the first world war by prisoners of war, especially the Russians. Around 600 died half of them was buried by an avalanche. In memory to all victims during the construction of the road a Russian chapel was built on the 8th bend (there are 24 of them to the top of the Vrsic) the tragedy happened on the 8. march 1916
