Hi,

Just for fun I did a test of several 135mm lenses.
Since I do not want to influence the outcome, I would like to test without telling which lens is used for each picture.

When the poll is ended I will tell which lenses were tested.

Test was done using all the same setting for each lens.
Exposure, WB, Raw conversion, iso,.....

Fist of all, this is the scene. (boring I know!!! Smile )

First grid - sharpness - Color
horizontal = Wide open, F4, F8 and F11
Vertical = Lens 1 to 4

Second Grid- Highlights (CA)
Same setup as the first grid

Lens 3 doesn't have a wide open? Have you just told us it's an f/4?

well, its indeed a wide open @ F4 Smile
I could have added a dummy, but that would qualify as cheating.

I voted for #4. Number 1 was last and 2&3 very close with an edge to #2 as second place. I think #3 may be a lens that I just bought two of.

Although the second grid, highlights, more sharpen is the No. 3.

#4 seems to be just a tad sharper than #3, and both are clearly better than #1 and #2.

I also voted for #4.

#4 then #3. #4 seems to be totally different formula from #1, #2 and #3.

OK,

Here we go. I was surprised to see how fast the winner was determined.

I think there are enough votes to have a clear view of the winner.

Lens 1: Vivitar 135/2.8 Komine
Lens 2: S-M-C Takumar 135/3.5
Lens 3: Jupiter 11A 135/4
Lens 4: CZJ 135/3.5

The Vivitar did actually worse then I expected. I am going to double check again for focusing error, but I believe the results are clear.
The vivitar also head a larger mafnification then the other lenses. so its closer to 145 mm then to 135.

My biggest surprise was how well the Jupiter did. I knew it was sharp, but sharper wide open then some of the other lenses that were already stopped down to F4 was really surprising.

Thanks for the input and I will try to do the same test with my big 50-55 collection.

Regards,

Jurgen

So me Shocked
Consider that I rated it the best of the lot, expecially for the quality @f4

Now if want a sharp alternative to the orestor I know were I've got to go.

Well, I was right that #3 is the lens I just bought two of recently. I will look forward to doing a test as well because I too am surprised that the Komine faired so poorly. If I can garner the patience and get the focus right enough times, I may be able to test several other lenses with them.

I will do a quick test for focus again to see if it was my poor focus ability or just the lens. Although I have used the lens several times now I always had the impressing it was sharp.
Ill let you know the result when I retested.

Regards,

Jurgen
