Hi i am Eddie, have been a long time lurker and decided it was time for me to register.
As i have a question.
I purchased a Jupiter 11a to mount on my Sony A700 camera.
When i mount the lens with the AF Chip adaptor to the camera, on turning the camera on the AF motors run on the camera and stop after a few seconds. My question is is this normal?
Camera is set to A, with MF

Welcome Edie! Doesn't look to normal, hopefully some of our Sony owners able to answer it.

This AF behaviour does not occur with all electric adapters but if it's only momentary, there's no real problem with it. Remember that the microchip lies to the camera and says an AF lens is attached so the camera is sort of “right” in being fooled.

If it annoys you, one simple solution is to drill an elliptical hole in the adapter exactly over the AF screw drive so that the AF screw enters that hole but cannot spin (because the hole is not round). (There is no harm in this even though it sounds strange—lenses with integrated motors have a similar trap.)
