Wow, what a rear lens element.
I wonder what the bokeh looks like with the electronic contacts protruding into the optical path. |

I think it has no noticeable effect. It's outside the image circle.
@Bob: does Pentax have an 50/1.0 then or are you just talking about the solution for the electronic contacts? This lens is discontinued anyway and there are no other lenses from Canon with such a huge rear element. |

I believe this lens also has electronically controlled focus, that is no mechanical coupling between the focusing ring and the lens groups.
Hey, if almost $5k is too steep, you can always go with one of the f/0.95 Canon rf lenses. I owned one at one time. Its focus is spelled S-O-F-T. _________________ Michael

Yes, the same as the 85L (and 50/1.2L too probably).
It's often called "focus by wire". |

Afaik the 50/1.2 actually does have a mechanical coupling, only the 85/1.2 has the focus-by-wire-thingy. |

I don't know. Seeing that the cut rear element of the M42 55/1.2 Tomioka (http://www.digicamclub.de/showthread.php?12160-Auto-Yashinon-1-1.2-f-55mm-TOMIOKA&p=126923&viewfull=1#post126923) obviously does have an impact on its bokeh (http://www.abload.de/image.php?img=img_5462-27stj.jpg), I could imagine that the same applies to the Canon. |

Hmmm . . . maybe that's one of the reasons why they decided to discontinue it?
Naw, probably the bottom line was the bottom line. Too expensive, and nobody was buying it. _________________ Michael

What you see there is mirror box shading. It's not the electronic contacts that are in the way. I believe that you can only prevent this problem on cameras with a shorter register distance (rangefinders).
