I received a great parcel from germany this week... Yes, I finally did it...  I now have the 40D's big brother, the 5D MkII !!!
I have to spend some time to read the manual !
At present, I don't manage to achieve whet I want with it because too much automatisms are set to on. 
I bought it with the Tamron SP 28-75mm f2.8 as I wasn't convinced by the 24-105 f4 L IS USM and it wasn't obvious that the better quality of the 24-70 f2.8 L USM was worth the huge difference in price.
I'm very pleased at present with this Tamron SP results.
