Hi everyone !
I've been a bit of a lurker for a while, and this is my first post
I am a big fan of my trusty Canon A1, I love the feeling of the MF combined with the great view finder and its... ahem "stigmomètre" (sorry, I can't find the word in English, it's the two half circles at the center of the view finder which match when focused).
I've finally bought a digital camera (an EOS 550D), so I thought it would be great to find this feeling back and bought a focusing screen with "stigmomètre" and... this (amoung other old MF lenses) :

It was advertised as a Pentax K mount... but wait, what is this ?

OK, that's great, there's an adapter and...

... an additional lens... glued ?
I have no idea of what the original mount is. I tried to fit an M42 adapter on it, as the diameter appears to be the same. But it isn't, by a very short margin (or maybe it's just the screw thread which isn't the same). M42 to Pentax adapters don't need any corrective lens anyway.

I mounted it on a Pentax camera with its adapter and, oh god, it's dark.
So here are my questions :
Do you know what this mount can be ?
Can I safely remove the corrective lens, and how ?
And, finally, is it possible to adapt this mount to EF ?

EDIT: I don't get why inline images work in the preview but break when submitted, so I've add some links to them.
EDIT2: That was even worse, "code" tag seems not to break the post at least. This forum is very picky about tags |

Upsilon had Sigma YS mount, that can be had for several cameras. I happen to have Minolta MC and M42 for my Sigma 135mm 1.8 (that lens was sold as Upsilon too).
I don't believe there is an additional lens glued on. You just need an YS adapter for Pentax-K, M42 or other mount that can easely adapted to Canon AF mount with a standard adapter. |

It may not be easy to find another YS mount without buying a lens that has the mount you want. BUT ...
You can use an ordinary T-mount instead. YS and T mounts have the same thread and register. Buy a Canon EOS T-mount and you will be OK. I have several YS-mount lenses and thats how I use them on my Pentax DSLR.
Of course, it will be a manual lens only with a T-mount, as there are no linkages to the camera body. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |
