At 2010 PRIDE parade in TO today, all shot were at f2.8 and camera was EOS 5D.
Some are a bit fuzzy due to my miss focus not the lens IMO, wish I nailed the focus for some.

100% crop of the above shot

Yes, there is LoCA since it was designed 1980's but the colour is remarkably vivid (maybe because of a good weather 31 degree C).
Btw, CA is easily removable by today's software luckily.

Color is very nice , right. Is this lighter lens than M42 version ?

PostPosted: Sun Jul 04, 2010 8:50 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Yes, Attila. It weighs only 940g, much lighter than M42 version, also
optically different more like Ernostar variant type. So the size is much smaller too.

I thought this, hopefully one time I able to get it. Praktica B lenses are still undiscovered by myself. I am very happy you have time to share with us your photos. If I remember as well you had some trouble with your health I hope you are discovered well.

LoCA (axial CA) is not easily removable by today's software, only lateral CA is. Tele lenses typically have almost no lateral CA, so I'd be surprised if this lens had any.

Thank you lots for the samples. Sharpnesswise your camera is not the best tool to test the lens, but I am 100% sure there is absolutely zero problem with that quality with this lens - all CZJ teles seem to be very very sharp. The two qualities that I am most interested are the above mentioned axial CA and purple fringing. I would appreciate, if you could post a couple of images taken in direct sunlight, where in one image a bright subject or area in focus were next to dark one, and also a wide open image where the subject were close and some OOF highlights were close to the subject.

Because the 300mm Prakticar is such a supreme lens, I am very interested in the 200mm one too. Thank you a lot for the samples!

What is the event you were photographing?

PostPosted: Mon Jul 05, 2010 11:56 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

The event is 2010 Pride Parade in Toronto, where I live.

Yeah, that was LaCA I meant. Purple fringe too is easily removable by SW.

I do not have such samples which you want to see, Anu.

Excellent set, Koji-san, such bright, gay, colors! Does this event reflect all
sections of society or just this particular one?

PostPosted: Mon Jul 05, 2010 6:48 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

It is hard to answer your question, Bill-san. We are fairly accustomed to
see their life-style in this town, but this particular parade show is not
representing all the levels of this society I think. Although many people
are involved and parade too.

This is the biggest parade in TO bar none. Very Happy

@tf

Try Prakticar 300/4 first, this lens has very nice colour rendition and sharp.
The optical formular is different than the traditional Sonnar design, but
some still call it 300/4 Sonnar rightly or wrongly. It is the last 300mm lens
CZJ made.

The Prakticar 200/2.8 has very similar optical design and almost identical
optical coating to me. This lens is rather rare, so hard to find it at eBay
with a reasonable price tag. Search local shops for it, they may not know
its rarity. Very Happy

But UK was the biggest market for East Germany to export for camera and
lens, probably except eastern Europe in communist era. So there is a chance
find one.

I seem to remember that the 200/2.8 never went into full production - this would explain the lack of them in the market - do you know if there is truth to this?

I one time saw the ad (brochure I think) which had a picture of Prakticar 200/2.8.
So this lens went more than proto-type production stage, and is occasionally seen
at eBay (most notably from "foto-hobby" guy in Poland) with a hefty price tag.

I bought mine at 2002 Dec, do not remember from who. The price was ~US$600,
whereas for Prakticar 300/4 I only paid US$300 at 2000 Feb. Prakticar 300/4 fetches
US$500 today at eBay, I would guess 200/2.8 will set you back around US$900! Shocked

I think there is a 200 available for about 600 euros, or at least there was a while ago, in Germany I think.

I can't remember what I paid for my 300 - maybe 150 euros or so. These can often be had for a little over 200 euros.

PostPosted: Wed Jul 07, 2010 2:47 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Yeah, 200~240 euro from Germany for 300/4 are lower than normal
eBay (US oriented) price. I have checked today, there are two sellers
offering this price range.

Generally German market has more varieties and less price AFAIK.
