This glass is made using local resources (sand and other stuff required for glass production), so this is not the same CZ, made in Germany.
And its overpriced, for that kind of money you can get Canon L lens. |

I am somehow with you there, Vulko, especially as no sample photos have been provided, even despite being requested in the last sale ...
Anyhow, that the Zeiss lenses have been made in Japan with Japanese glass for some time is a known and definitely not a negative ...
I would see this lens rather as a "collector's" item until proven otherwise that the optical quality is better than the EF 24-70 L 1:2.8 (which, honestly, I doubt - not talking about the constant f 2.8 on the Canon lens ...) which is costing the same heap of money. _________________ Visit the Yashica Information Site! |

Hi,,
below a link to another forum with pics of this lens and others converted by Conurus.

Ok, the samples shown there are not too bad - but as written before the same subjects with a Canon L lens - and I´m sure you wouldn´t see any difference.
The Canon EF 24-70mmL is one of the best Canon lenses I own. I own the Vario-Sonnar 24-85 for my N1 too.

This is a fascinating lens. I would love to have one for my 5D.
But it's way too expensive for me ATM. _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

If I remember correctly, this is a much sort after lens in the other world (AF world) especially after conversion. I have not been following this since joining this forum so the news could be 1 or 2 years old. _________________

This quality of the Contax/Zeiss lenses has very little to do with the place of production. Are you claiming that all CZ lenses that were made in Japan are inferior to the ones that were made in Germany?
The CZ/Contax designs have their own unique characteristics which no expensive Canon L or Leica/whatever can give you (although in some designs the Zeiss "signature" is not so strong as in others). The Distagon 21/2.8 is a good example that has no equivalent among other brands.
The new Canon 100/2.8L macro and Zeiss Makro-Planar 100/2.0 are compared in a recent thread on the fredmiranda forum and the differences are very clear. Judge for yourself what kind of image rendition you prefer.
This Contax 24-85 N is no f/2.8 lens so you cannot directly compare it to the Canon L in its application, but it will certainly give different images. |

Oh come on.
Let's don't talk about the price, if you think Canon L lens is better so go for it.
For a lens like this, there's no standard price, you can find one in KEH for like $500-$600, then you have to ship it to Conurus and converted for $400+tax and ship it back, you can figure out how much and how long you have to wait.
This lens is not mine, so don't judge the price please........... |

Agreed. AEJ/AEG glass were pretty much the same, the G glass costs more due to snobbery. And if i have to make a choice, i'll pick the new sigma, which has proven to be better than the canon L. _________________ www.estudiocaleidoscopio.com |
