Hi All,

I own an Isco 35/2.8 Westron - preset, in the late "flared" Isco style - and I'm very pleased with it. (Thanks again, Willi!)

Recently I came across an Isco 35/2.8 Westromat, in a very similar style. Aside from the fact that it's automatic, does anyone happen to know whether (and how) the Westromat might differ from the Westron? Are the lenses identical, optically speaking?

Many thanks!

Jon

I don't have any documentation to support what I'm saying here, but from my recollection of the time when these were actually being sold, the 'Westromat' name simply indicated the auto-iris operation. Maybe it seemed more elegant, or more distinctive, than 'Auto Westron'.

Hi Stephen

I have read the same thing that you said.

I have an old directory lenses of modern photography and there are both, with identical especifications, only difference is the automatic aperture in the westromat.

Rino.

My Isco-Gottingen Westron 35/2.8 #719358 (the favorite of my few 35mm's) is M42 with auto-iris and a 54mm filter thread. Is this a mislabeled Westromat?

Thanks, all! I reckoned the Westromat might well be an automatic version of the Westron, and I appreciate the confirmation.

Captain Jack does show an Auto Westron as well as the preset version (and the Westromat too), so there's clearly some overlap (and/or inconsistency) among Isco naming conventions. Maybe the auto 35/2.8 was a "Westromat" only when the name "Berolina" was used in conjunction with it, and an "Auto Westron" otherwise?

Cheers,

Jon
