Back in MIR-country...

Hi!

I am waiting to get a mint MIR-24H that I have bought some days ago.
The interesting bit will be a comparison between the MIR and my Leica Summicron-R 2/35: similar parameters, both are said to be bokeh kings.
I am really excited to see how well the MIR copes with the Leica legend. Wink

I don't have the Leica but I think you're going to really like the Mir 24 alot. Not sure if it's a bokeh king but it's definitely a sharpness monster and can focus super close. I did a comparison test video in this thread to my Jupiter-9.....

Be sure to watch it in high definition for best results. I dare say, you can get some 3D out of that lens. The first shot in the Mir 24 series of shots feels like alot of 3D Zeiss shots I've seen. Next to the Helios 44M, it's my favorite lens to use.

Congrats Carsten! I don't know about the Leica lens, but I think you're going to like the Mir-24 very much, however it compares. It's main strength for me is the good contrast and rich colours. Can't wait to hear what you think of it! Wink

The mir 24H is definitely a bokeh king!

See for yourself:

For €75 you get a brand new copy of the 24H

For €75 you get the used packaging of the 35 'cron

As far as the comparison (Summicron - MIR) is concerned, the Leica sets the challenge high. It is a fantastic lens with only one minor flaw: the corners on a digital fullframe cam. It is IMHO the best 35mm lens on a crop cam, though.

I don't know what kind of lenses thay used, but movie studios in Russia produced films in the 60's with excatly the same color charts as the mir lenses, especially this warm blue. I love that render. I really should try this lense ! BTW yes, shot n°3 is amazing !

It's kind of weird.
I have started my collection and my obsession for manual lenses with Russian glass and now after a couple of years (about 6 yrs with manual lenses on DSLRs) of trying lenses of more and more reputable brands and types (Pentax, CZJ, Nikkor, Zuikos, Leica...) I seem to come back to some Russian lenses: Zenitar 2.8/16, Volna-9 and now the MIR-24N.

Is there any difference between the 24N and 24H...?

No, they are the same lens. The H is the cyrillic equivalent of the latin N. The M42 version (24M) has a completely different body design but I believe the optics are identical.

Good luck Paul, you'll be pleased with it. It's biggest strength is the rich colours, so don't judge it with B&W film Smile
