The sun had gone behind the hill and the birds had come down to feed.
The light was excruciatingly dull and shutter speeds were of the order of 1/30sec ISO 200 and 400
No choice but to shoot at maximum aperture (f4.5)
K-10D on tripod. Adjust exposure only except last two where some further PP was added

Very nice Tom, the bright red feathers have plenty of detail. Red seems to bleed together into a mush very easily. _________________ LENSES & CAMERAS FOR SALE.....

Well done! I know how hard it is to shoot these birds in dull light...with a Tamron mirror lens...I now know I should have used the Soligor

Thanks Lloyd and Mo.
I must thank my model - every time the shutter clunked - as only a K-10D shutter can - the parrot stopped and froze.
Yes we, too look like we are going to get an early spring. The grape vine and the mulberries are already sprung.
It has been so dry that fire restrictions begin tomorrow up here.

They are very hard birds to sneak up on (the King parrots)...what version of the Soligor 4.5/250 do you have?

Yes ....... O-L lock but no indication under the mount adapter I'm afraid.
Since it is a Soligor, I guess it is a T4 mount (M42).
Doesn't really matter as I won't be changing it.
And - yes - it performs surprisingly well even wide open as you can see.
As well, the 250mm lens was just right for the situation.
I was on the back verandah hiding behind some towels hanging on the undercover clothes line.
300mm would have been too close, 200mm too far.

Thanks Mo.
This is an amazingly good lens from wide open and onwards through the apertures.
It is easy to focus and, with the tripod ring, very well balanced.
