After seeing the many great macros taken by RenseH, I got inspired in making that same pop-up flash diffuser. He put up a manual on how to create it here!
Sadly I lack having a proper Macro lens such as the well known ones by Panagor and Vivitar. So I had to do it with Bellows and a Carl Zeiss Sonnar 135/3.5 which did the job perfectly! I tried it with a 50mm lens too but I nearly had to poke the bugs in order to maintain focus, so that didn't really work out. With the Sonnar I could stay around 30 cm from the insect and that didn't startle them either.
Currently there are alot of Chlorophanus viridis, green beetles with silly nose from which I don't know the english name. They also form a nice subject and look kinda cute . Also attempted to photograph some ants, but sjeesh they don't ever rest do they. Some of the better results are added here, including a snapshot of the setup!
Enjoy.

Anyone knows how much of extension tubes is needed to achieve 1:1 magnification on this lens? I just ordered a standard cheap set of 55mm overall, I guess that'll do for ! 1:2, right? (Arkku said in another post that 135mm lens would require 135mm of tubes to achieve 1:1, I guess that's right in most lenses?)
BTW. Brilliant shots, JWH. |

Being anal today, I must ask if the lens you use was actually Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar, and not Carl Zeiss Sonnar as written on the images? At least it looks like the East German masterpiece in the first image. Sorry
Nice shots btw |

Yea you're correct. It's the Jena DDR. Slimmed the text down a little in the captions otherwise things won't fit for potrait shots . |
