Not that many. The lens is heavy (6 kg) and so is the tripod needed to keep it steady. I'm normally travelling by bicycle and public transport and even though the lens comes apart and fits into my bike bag it is less than ideal for me to use. I did take it to a nearby spoonbill colony once:
