Hello everyone. I've been visiting this forum since couple month ago. Absolutely love it. You guys are awesome. So here is my first post. Also my first M42 lens. Not easy to focus with lv especially under bright sunlight. I use this lens with a $5 M42-EOS adapter on my Canon 500D. One thing i noticed is that the sharpness of this lens decrease a lot at infinity objects. Most of my pictures are shot wide open. Love to hear your opinions and advices. Thx.

It is a spam protection - now you can see them, I am sure.
Congratulations on your purchase. You picked wisely - it is a stunning lens. Now the danger is that you'll get m42-addiction
Regarding infinity-sharpness - I've never noticed such problem. Could is be a problem related to athmosperic heat and not the lens? Or maybe you focus beyond the infinity (this could be if the adapter is a bit too thin). |

I say you are not reaching infinite focusing, or you are past infinite focusing.

I tried some snow mountain shots (handhold and on tripod). I couldn't get a very sharp view in liveview mode on my 500D LCD no matter how i adjust the focus ring. I used X10 to view. Here is a sample image. When i watch them 100% on PC, they are not as sharp as images i took with canon 50 1.8 in terms of infinity objects such as these snow peaks.

Then I'd guess the lens just doesn't reach infinity, which means that your adapter is too thick. |

Exactly, should not measure more than 1.3 mm or 1.5mm. If in these measures, the problem is in the lens.
Compare your photos with others posted here. I think your lens is not much sharper. Oil in the glass or is bad. (descolimado, in Spanish)

It's a great lens.
Your infinity focus problems may be down to the adapter allowing the lens to focus past infinity (I know because every one of mine does). Try using live view to set focus on a far off subject. _________________ Casual attendance these days |
