I remember me from reading Photomagazines in the seventies that Upsilon lenses were imported in the Netherlands that were all identicall to Sigma lenses. One of them was the 135mm 1.8 (I purchased that one as Sigma, that helps my memory). So it were rather good lenses. I don't remember me a 400mm in that series.

I have a 300mm f/4 Upsilon in that series, it is unfortunately a wreck so I can't answer for quality. I agree that it was probably a rebranded Sigma.

Not that it makes much difference, but it may be a YS mount, mine is.

i've got it, its fairly soft and with 2x extender its very soft.
