for some reason, i have kind of taken to adopting petri orikkor kuribayashi pre-set lenses. here is the result so far, 35/3.5, 50/2.0, 135/3.5, 180/3.5:

first, they are kinda rare; you really dont see a lot of them about, and i like that. second, they are both nice looking and compact, and i like that. in fact, the 180mm is about 1/2 the size and weight of the jupiter 200mm it replaced! and finally, they are relatively inexpensive and i really like the results/price ratio. here are some samples from the 35mm on ep-1: PLEASE CLICK ON EACH PHOTO FOR BEST RESOLUTION!!!

here are some with the 50mm on 5d, again click on each for best resolution!!

C&C welcome!

The 35, 135 and 180 were made by Kyoei

You can also find them in the Kyoei Acall brand.

There is also a 250/4 Kyoei in this series (not in the Petri brand though) that is also a very fine lens, and probably others though they would be very rare indeed.

I don't know who made the 50, it probably wasn't Kyoei. I suspect Tomioka.

All these Kyoei/Petri lenses I have tried are exceptionally fine.

My travel bag has the Kyoei 180 in it, I like it best out of my 180's/200's, some of these others are as sharp or possibly better, but the Kyoei has a certain je ne se quoi, some aspect of color saturation I think.

I am still looking for one of the 35's.

hey luis

if you like the 180, take a look at part 2 of my thread, where i shoot with the petri 180--with and without a 2x teleconverter. i think the images are really sharp.

btw, if you know where i can get the K 28mm or anything between 75-90mm, let me know!

Very nice shots. It's funny how you get attached to a certain make of lens. For me it's Olympus and Takumar. I have a funny feeling that Canon FD will not be far behind!
