My thought too. It can be mounted on m4/3 with an adapter, but
no other camera can use the lens except Contarex camera itself. _________________ Our Home Page has 18,200 photos in 575 directories today.

i can try.. i've already mounted canon fl, fd, nikon ai-s pentax-k, m42, etc, etc, etc, and this probably will be as difficult as those ones.
But, the mount is quite weird.... and the insides of the lens are one of the most strange i've ever seen so far. _________________ www.estudiocaleidoscopio.com |

Hope you can clean the lens. The 50mm I have has very slight separation on the edges. You can only see it just at the right angle. You may find some after you clean the fungus off.
Contarex mounts have their aperture controlled on the camera body, so you will not see the aperture ring on the lens. Instead of a regular MF adaptation which just focuses on the lens register distance (no pun intended you also need to re-establish the aperture linkage with the adapter in order to use the lens.
I've seen adapters for m4/3. Here's one on evilBay for 4/3 format.
Click here to see on Ebay
Here's another link on the forum discussing mounts/adapters for Contarex.

Alex (hk300) may be able to help if to see if his supplier makes these. Actually I've got a few lenses in Contarex mount that I may adapt before I decide to sell them or not. _________________ Wilson

Thanks for your replies. Now i'm into the second element, so cleaning is going... slow but going. I'll consider buying one of those converters, but what worries me is that i saw the rear element protrudes a lot. Still, i would love to shot with this glass. _________________ www.estudiocaleidoscopio.com |

The lens should be ok. With the adapter, it should take up most of what's protruding. I'm still looking for my adapter to m4/3 to test it out as I mentioned before. Unfortunately, there's no commercially available adapter for my 5D. Will report back when I get a reasonably priced adapter for m4/3.
If you think this lens protrudes, you should check out the Biogon 21mm/4.5 for the Contarex. Basically you have to lock the mirror up, mount the lens and shoot with a rangefinder _________________ Wilson

FYI, the Mamiya Sekor 50mm/2 lens in M42 mount is sharp and relatively cheap. Examples in clean, usable condition are common on eBay, etc. Sometimes they come with a body like the 500TL, 500DTL, 1000TL or 1000DTL and the combo is cheap, too. Their later SX series lens is the same optically but has no auto/manual lever for the aperture. _________________ Sincerely,

Good, thanks for the info. I guess my choice is the 4/3 converter. Do any of you knows the contarex lens registry distance? And also, how to disassemble it? I managed to take the first ring, the first element (which didnt wanted to leave, i had to shake it gently), now i took the second ring but this element just doesnt want to take out.
-I managed to take 2 more elements now by shaking the lens. This is the weirdest diafragm i've ever seen, in the transition from f2 to f22 i see this lovely star!
-Now, what puzzles me is how to take the front element, or any elements past the diafragm... anybody knows? _________________ www.estudiocaleidoscopio.com |
