There is a nice old Nikkor 50mm f1.4 on the bay which states it has a pre-AI mount. What would that be so i can look at adapters?

Also is the Nikkor f1.4 as good as people say it is? From the examples i have seen it looks quite stunning or would i be better off with a SMC Takumar 50mm f1.4? I already have a M42 adapter!

Thanks

Andy - You just need a Nikon adapter. Ai & Pre Ai make no difference on non-Noink cameras.

I had a Pre Ai 50 1.4 S.C and got rid of it straight away as it was nowhere near the sharpness of the 55 1.8 S-M-C Tak wide open and wasn't really better than it in any way. There are a few different versions of the Nikkor so I may not have had the best. These days I only use screwmount lenses anyway.

There are plenty of versions. You can check this page (click lens name for photo)

And then you need to cross-reference the info there with the info here:

Excellent!

Thanks for all the info.

I found Nikkor 50/1.4 in particular to be greatly improved in Ai/AIS incarnations over the older pre-Ai types. The Ai is probably the one to have for its longer focus throw.

And still the "old" pre-AI Nikkor 1.4/50 can be great lenses.
I have the S.C-version and I really like it!

That's the one I had. Not my kind of lens.
