picked one up today. anyone know how to date these? number is
188397.
how easy (or hard) are these to clean the inside of the front lens?
it has a bit of fungus I think, that doesn't show up in photo's.
got it for £10 - good or bad deal?

There is 2 versions of the 3.5/135 Takumar (not Auto-Takumar) .

The first one with minimum focus distance at 1.8m was built between 1958 and 1961 and the later min. focus diastance at 2.0m was build only on 1962.

It's one of the most beautiful old lenses I've seen. And you got it quite cheap.

About the disassemble of the lens I only found about the Super-Takumar version... it should be about the same:

Sounds like you got a very nice lens at a very nice price - congratulations Wink

As to cleaning it, there's a take-apart here for the Super-Takumar 1.8/55 - but your 135 doesn't need the lens-spanner, the front element will drop out when the beauty ring is unscrewed and the lens inverted.

Brilliant thanks, yes unscrewed the namering with the rubber from the bottom of a crutch and the lens simply came out without having to unsrew anything else, cleaned it and put it back together and it,s looking great.
can't wait to get out and try it out. Very Happy

That's a great deal you got there, I paid 3x as much but wouldn't give this lens up for anything, it's beautiful, both the aperture and focus rings have both a free and precise movement and it's well solid and pocketable at all times in a jacket. Mine is the all black version and the serial is 784966, it goes down to 1.5m.
