Non-paying bidder increase?

Has anyone else noticed a spike in non-paying bidders on eBay lately? I've had three cases in the last two weeks where people didn't pay. That's three times as many as for all the sales I've made in the eleven years previous. And all my non-paying bidders have been in the last three months. Granted, I'm no volume seller and four non-payers in three months feels like a lot. Has anyone else noticed this? How do you handle it?

I wish non-paying bidders had an automatically generated negative feedback put on their record. Something like: "eBay auto -- this buyer did not pay for an item nor resolve the claim." That would be great. Sellers currently have no recourse except to have our fee reclaimed. Great. I dislike that eBay coddles the buyers when the sellers pay all the fees. As it is, I'm about to stop accepting bids from anyone with less than 10 feedback as three of the offenders have had four or fewer ratings.

I had bad experience with auction style bidding like your had , so I sell all stuff on fixed price with offer. If an offer come I able to see user feedback and I have a chance to decide accept buyer or not. It works pretty well, to exclude people by feedback number is not so smart , many of my good buyer has 0-2 feedbacks. I sold my most expensive item to a buyer who has one feedback only etc. I filter people on non-payment strike if somebody has 2 non-payment strike within a month he is prohibited to buy from me.

I feel for you David, as I am having the opposite problem of a seller who will not give me any details so I can pay him!! I think people just like to jerk others around... cause they can on the internet?

I have 100x more jerk locally in logo business than on internet from all over the world. Sometimes happen and I think we are really lucky with photographer community including sellers , buyers.

I've paid late several times since last autumn. Not because I wanted to back out of any deal, but because I simply did not notice. In each case it was some small value item (like spare screws, a flash cable etc.) on which I had bid something near the minimum a week or more before auction end - i.e. things where I usually don't watch the outcome. Both the ebay notification system and the start page layout have significantly changed for the worse - I received no notification mail for these wins (plus some more), and the "my purchases" list and "you have to pay for N items" status line have both been rearranged way down the start page, and vanished off the screen...
