Simply, which one would be your choice for wide angle Y/C mount and why?

I know only the 28 f2.5 but this one is gorgeous! Sharp even wide open and very nice close up performance!

An absolute keeper!

hi tharos

unfortunately i only have the yashica ml, but i love it. it is sharp wide open, great contrast and color. the reason i bought it is because there are several old threads on this forum where orio compared this lens to the distagon 28mm. only the ml can be had for less than $100 (i got mine for less than $60 about 3 months ago).

The only 28mm lens I have that has an edge on my Yashica 28mm ML is the Distagon. The Distagon cost ten times the price of the YML. I don't have any Vivitar lenses so I can't offer a comparison, but the ML is so good that I'm not looking anywhere else.

Tharos,
I have a Vivitar 28 2.5 in M42 mount. Unfortunatly I didn't have a good expiriene at the D80. I just bought a 20D and I am waiting the M42-EOS adaptor to test it. I guess I have a bad copy.... Crying or Very sad

The Vivitar 24/2.8 is a useful lens but needs to be stopped down a bit before it gets sharp. I'm talking about the Tokina variant here (37xxxxxx serial).

Thanks Shrek, I will remember to stop down.

Ah, you've gone for a different lens so it may differ. I guess really most 24mm work will be at infinity where you'll probably be stopping down anyway Smile
