Yes its a very good lens Ron I've posted quite a few samples in the past, a few in the digital mf gallery recently, try a search under my name. It is very sharp, great colour saturation and punch but it is pretty big and heavy as well . I would rate it very highly and get a lot of use from mine particularly for wildlife - its easy to crop and zoom the image without losing detail with it- hope that helps! ps i will get you for that SMIFFY

The price/performance ratio is perfect. A little bit heavy but a for this price one of the best you can get. I paid for this lens 10 €

Rolf's samples do show the Jupiter off to it's best advantage, very good colours indeed. I would add the built in hood is a bit short I usually use a bigger 58mm screw in hood with mine but highly recommended all the same

Big, bulky , with excellent image quality, I don't think so you need if you have already a Takumar.

I bought one the other day for my first 200mm prime, now I wish to explore more Russian telephotos as it is incredibly sharp. It was perfect condition with original case, sadly not the filters it originally came with. The colours are beautiful, it seems the reputation it has on this forum is very justified.

Another convert. Fresh meat, MWUHAHAHA!!!
Yes, that's a good image. I would get one of these if I didn't already have 2 other very good 200mm lenses. _________________ Casual attendance these days |

Some very nice samples. The colors on Rolf's flowers is excellent.
I have only used the 200mm Tak a couple of times. I got it just before my injury. For the price of the jupiter I think I should try one. _________________ Ron |

Just this afternoon I did some test shoots on my Pentax K20D, to weed out some long lenses that will be Sold Down The River. (A flaky old Vivitar, a couple Ricoh-Sears, a Rexatar - bye bye. A couple others... well, maybe. That Takumar-A 70-200 really isn't up to snuff.) Among those I shot were a bought-new Jupiter-21M (US$25 on eBay last year), a Super-Takumar 200/4 ($37), a little Tele-Takumar 200/5.6 ($29), and a Pentax FA 100-300 ($120, shot at 200mm, an incredible lightweight gem). All were superb wide-open and at f/8 -- sharp, saturated, 3D-like. This was just a rough triage; I'll do more rigorous testing Real Soon Now. The next round will include my Vivitar Series 1 Version 1 70-210 (US$32). Let's see, the cost of all four MF's was just two bucks more than the underrated AF. I love a bargain! And that Jupiter-21M is great, heavy enough to crush an armadillo! _________________ Too many film+digi cams+lenses, oh my -- Pentax K20D, K-1000, M42s, more

I deleted most of the rough test shots. I'll reshoot the survivors soon and post some results. Today I'm weeding-out 135's. I expect the Jupiter-11 and Tele-Ennalyt to survive; don't know about the Hanimars, Porst, or Opticam... _________________ Too many film+digi cams+lenses, oh my -- Pentax K20D, K-1000, M42s, more

Hi!
Does anybody experience lots of awful flare/haze from this lens? Even with the built-in hood extended, I often get flare when there's plenty of bright sky in the frame, even when I'm in the shade and the sun is low behind me. I get it also when the sun is coming from my side. You think getting a UV filter helps limit this? or maybe a better lens hood? Or, is the Jupiter-21M I am borrowing defective? It looks totally clean to me, free from fungus or haze.
I have an SMC Takumar 55mm f/2 and I haven't seen any flare on my photos when used with my Pentax K-x.
sample shot with the flare

Rather carelessly painted black interior surfaces. Version Jupiter-21A (I heard), products of higher quality. _________________
