Tried to get some snowflake macros as they hit the van. Pentacon 50mm 1.8 and #1,#2,#3 set of Pentax extension tubes.

The funky metallic paint on the van wasn't the best backdrop for these. And it was hard to photograph. Next time I'll try to catch some snowflakes on a piece of black fabric. I was just happy to get snow, we've hardly had any this winter.

What looks like noise at the top and bottom of the frame is actually just out of focus. That narrow depth of field was tricky, especially hand held! I'll try to set up a tripod next time too.

For my first try doing snowflakes though and just learning macros, I thought they turned out pretty cool.

Oh, and not bad for a $15 lens and $10 set of extension tubes. Very Happy

Nice ones! Tried it myself some weeks ago, with the Jupiter-9 and extension tubes, and later on with the Macro-Takumar 50/4 and extension tubes. It's fun, isn't it?

That 1st one is brillant. All good, but the 1st one I think stands out as the DOF is perfect.

Thanks so much everyone.

I can't get over how beautifully detailed these little flakes are.

I can just see myself...the next time my children go to make snowballs to toss at one another...screaming, 'No, put it down! You'll crush the little flakes and break them!' Wink
