How to unmount my C/Y-EOS adapter?

Hi folks,

I just received a set of Contax Zeiss lenses; 50/1.4 Planar AE, 35-70/3.4 Vario-Sonnar MM and 135/2,8 Sonnar AE. I already received my adapter from eBay (seller big_is), so after a quick inspection I started mounting my 50/1.4 to my EOS 7D. The adapter fitted niceley and I loved the IQ from the Planar.

Up next was the 35-70MM; once again I very much liked what I saw, but when I tried to unmount my adapter (from the lens), I couldn't! I played around carefully for an hour, and then started to do a little research. I'm pretty sure my adapter is stuck because of the little tab on the outside of the barrel (only on MM-mount lenses) as pictured below (not my actual lens, picture from the internet):

The adapter has a little shaft for it in which it fits. However, my adapter is now blocked for clockwise rotation by this little tab; counter-clockwise is blocked by that little metal plate (the one that bends on the end).

So my question is how do I get that adapter of my lens? I hope I'm missing something obvious and you guys can laugh at my ignorance, cause I really can't figure it out :p.

Any help is really appreciated...

some adapter are tight fit and can be tricky to remove

for difficult case, I use a wrench to have more grip
sometimes I have to use a small screwdriver to push the tab

for one extreme case, I had to unscrew the tab

to tweak the fitting of the adapter, modify the space pointed by the red arrow
more space for more tight, less for less tight

Assuming you are using the same adapter as the below pic (Poilu's pic in fact)

try to use a small screwdriver to push in the adapter spring. You probably will not need to use a grip tool.

@LucisPictor: thanks, what did I do wrong? In the preview it seemed to work.

@ poilu: I don't really think I can get it of by more force (using that grip tool), I've already used quit some force to trie to get it of, and I wasn't even close.

@hk300: I think the Contax mount is above that spring so I can't get there with a screwdriver.

I've made two pics to clarify the problem.

The tab on the outside (which is blocking the entire adapter):

To me it looks like that tab has to get out of that shaft, however, it doesn't seem to move a bit.

The mounted adapter from above:

try to use a small flat screw driver to unlock the spring and then use some force to turn the lens.

lol ... perhaps buy a few more adapters, such that you don't need to unmount the adapters anymore Wink

let me know if you need any adapters Cool

Yeah, I certainly will buy one for each lens. I'm just not sure which one to get, so I figured it would be best to buy just one adapter to start with. This big_is adapter fits perfectly on my 50mm (no play at all), but does have a tiny bit of play on my 135, and quit a bit on the 35-70.

I don't really need the focus chip (main purpose for these lenses is video and I'm not convinced that it's better than my eye), but the proper budget adapters seem to come with one. The 'dumb' ones are either very expensive (Kindai) or supercheap and probably no good (the generic stuff on eBay).

HappypageHK gets a lot of good reviews, but I often read it's (too) thick. So now I don't really know what to get, lol.

I'll spit through all the reviews and opinions on this forum the next couple of days.
