My first shots with the Helios 44-2 58mm f/2 (wide open)

Can it capture texture?
f/2 | 1/250 | ISO 400 | RAW | No PP | Picture Style: Neutral | WB: Auto
Look at the texture of the pillow
---
My wife hates this lens (I wonder why )
f/2 | 1/200 | ISO 400 | RAW | No PP | Picture Style: Neutral | WB: Auto | Flash Used
---
If this lens is this sharp at f/2, I can imagine it at 5.6 or 8, gasp! I'm so looking forward to Saturday to field test this lens. _________________ Digital: Canon 450D

It's nice and sharp, even wide open.
I just got one of these last weekend and am impressed with it.
Enjoy, and I look forward to seeing what else you capture. _________________ Canon 50D; CZJ Sonnar 135mm 3.5; SMC Takumar 55mm 1.8; Helios 44-2 58mm 2; Jupiter 37-A 135mm 3.5; Jupiter 11A 135mm 4; Pentacon 135mm 2.8; Nikkor-P 105mm 2.5;(Tokina) Vivitar 35mm 2.8; Tokina RMC 28mm 2.8; Vivitar 19mm 3.8; RMC Tokina 80-200mm 4.5; RMC Tokina 35-70mm 3.5; Panagor 90mm 2.8; Asahi Pentax extension tubes; 2xAuto Prinz teleconverter M42 |

Great lens, for sure. I'm thinking of getting one of those after I get a 28mm |

Yes, it is a very sharp and useful lens. Great for portraits too, on a crop camera.
I love the color and contrasts, only the bokeh can be a bit weird sometimes. _________________ Fujifilm X-Pro2 / Fujifilm X-T1 / some Sonnar & Takumar lenses |

@Tharos, heartcat: My Saturday schedule is (a) to shoot the streets from a dog's eye view with the SuperTak 28mm 3.5 from 9 am to 12 noon. At 1 pm, I have to switch to my 28-105 3.5-4.5 to shoot a Chinese New Year event and on the same event starting 6 pm, I'll switch to the Helios
@my_photography: I'm hunting for a good MF 35mm f/2 or wider next considering Canon didn't upgrade its 35mm f/2.
@DiegoV: I didn't expect the Helios 44-2 to be sharp at f/2 either since most articles I've read re lenses said we need to close down by 2 stops to get the optimum sharpness. I guess whoever wrote those articles didn't have a Helios 44-2 eh?
---
After I opened the package, I quickly learned how to use it. Set the rear ring to stop the blade ring at the desired aperture. At f/2 there's no risk of moving the blade ring but I found out that I have to be careful at other apertures because I might accidentally turn the blade ring. However, I bought this lens so I can shoot wide open so it would be at f/2 most of the time
Mine's a little battered (looks like an engine part) but now. At $24 with an IQ of a Canon L glass (or even better), I can't complain. _________________ Digital: Canon 450D

I have the 28mm 3.5 Tak as well, but have yet to take it out and test it. _________________ Canon 50D; CZJ Sonnar 135mm 3.5; SMC Takumar 55mm 1.8; Helios 44-2 58mm 2; Jupiter 37-A 135mm 3.5; Jupiter 11A 135mm 4; Pentacon 135mm 2.8; Nikkor-P 105mm 2.5;(Tokina) Vivitar 35mm 2.8; Tokina RMC 28mm 2.8; Vivitar 19mm 3.8; RMC Tokina 80-200mm 4.5; RMC Tokina 35-70mm 3.5; Panagor 90mm 2.8; Asahi Pentax extension tubes; 2xAuto Prinz teleconverter M42 |
