Has anyone bought any screens from these people?

They can supply an Ec-A screen for my 40D which I find tempting, but it's hard to tell how big the focus aid really is.

I have not used them but might.
It's interesting though. They re-work screens from the Canon pro models to fit the 5D/5DII.
Most others rework old screens from minolta and nikon.
Possibly higher succes rate using the oem screen to start with.
I've tried a couple of screens from China in my 5D before settling with the Contax RTS screen I have now.
None worked out and shimming was a waste of time.

I have one of their screens in my Sony A100, FSL type with a diagonal split-prism surrounded by a microprism collar. Works nicely for manual focus, but like most of these screens, becomes unusable at small apertures (beyond f/5.6 or so).

HI,

in our german forum we did discuss the pro and cons of the focusingscreen.com screens..

Here is a post out of a thread, where you can see the darkening effect of the used screen made out of a Nikon K3 screen for a 450D...

The guys made this also for your 40D..

Its nice to see in the pictures, that the screen works up to f/11 on the split image... look at the images

http://www.digicamclub.de/showpost.php?p=118369&postcount=154

The guy who buyed the screen is perfectly satisfied with focusingscreen.com. He described the exactly positioning of the screen and the service of focusingscreen.com. They deliver shims together with the screen for the perfect adjustment.

Cheers
Henry

I have their Canon Ec-b for my *istD and it works well. They even included two shims which turned out to be really useful.

BTW, I just received and installed a Canon Eg-S screen a friend cut to size for my Pentax, and it's the best screen ever for fast mf lenses: the oof areas are great, and it snaps in and out of focus with absolute sensitivity. We should ask Alex to have them cut to size for major cameras.

Thats correct! Its a good screen for fast lenses (the EG-s).
I use this in my EOS 5D MKII with high sensitivity and focus fits perfect, but its a mate screen and will be darker at the 2.8 turning point..

The focusingscreens are split image with microprism collars, which are helpful in both situations. Fast lens or stopped down !..

Cheers
Henry

I find split image to be useless for portraiture. Anyone else find this?

I have a cheapo screen but I favour the Canon mette screen mostly.

Mostly yes, although in a pinch it is possible to use it to focus on the edges of the eyelids or the lips (either in portrait orientation or a diagonal split-prism). I prefer the microprisms for portrait focusing.

I decided to go with the K3 screen. It's a bit pricey but looks like a good option and I've seen one in use on a 400D.

I ordered one of these on 9 Feb (for a Pentax K200D) - due to be delivered today. It may be costlier than you realise, although focusingscreen.com include carriage you will also be charged about £9 UK VAT and a handling fee of £13.50 by ParcelForce.

Ordered a screen from them, but they were out of stock of the one I wanted for a long time so I canceled the order. No problems, but equally I haven't been able to try their product.

The actual screens are stock ones for full frame film cameras, cut down on a numerically controlled cutter.

Well mine arrived today and picked it up after work. It's a great screen. It's the K3 model from a Noink camera.

Split image, micro prism and matte. I had the rule of thirds lines added because I have issues when shooting portrait. The gridlines are white(ish) instead of black so they're handy when shooting at night.

The packing was overkill. It looked like I'd ordered a hardback book. Still, better safe than sorry. And came with various tools and spacers as well as a guide written in broken English.

In all, great. I'm glad I went for this instead of a Katzeye or Hoada.

Now, anyone have a 40D and need a split image screen?
