I've seen this film offered at Wallies in 4-packs (24exp) and decided to
try it. These shots are using the Nikon F4s and Sigma Mini-Wide:

In the last shot the guy lunged at me and I had to focus very fast, exposure settings were off. lol

here's a BW conversion using the Andy plugin in Bibble:

Grainier results than Portra 800, for sure.

Picked up some Fuji press 800asa off ebay cheap, quite good for dull conditions:-

Straight from a supermarket CD they did the dev as well, and not touched by me.

nice, excalibur ...

The bench shot looks sharp and not unpleasant grain, but the guy shot seems to have some grain going on. Maybe the background colours set it of.

P.S Why is he lunging at you? Shocked

Excalibur and Fish4570, thanks for stopping by. Excalibur, very nice shots
indeed, thanks for beautifying my thread. Wink It looks like you had a
little more light to play with than I did. Will see what the other rolls will
bring.

Fish4570, I've had pretty good luck with Fuji 400, too, excellent (and
cheap) film.

Martin, I've shot this guy before, he's quite a character. He thought to
startle me as I was aiming at something to the far right. When he
lunged, I swung around focused and shot. The Mini-Wide focuses to
something between 4-5 inches, not bad performance in a wide.

The shot is underexposed, I was shooting manual settings at something
much brighter, at 1/250sec, and didn't have time to change settings.

Well I have limited experience using fast colour neg film but my impression so far is:- fast colour neg film is a bit of a rip off, sure you can get an image full of grain at the speed on the box, but if you reduce the speed by one or two stops, or use a flash gun or shoot in sun light...... the grain reduces amazingly.

This is Fuji 1600 with plenty of light (flash):-

Couldn't agree more.

Another nice shot, Excalibur, although if using flash indoors I'd go with a
slower film as 1600 is overkill. I bought the 800 ostensibly to use with
my Vivitar Ultra Wide and Slim for cloudy overcast days. Maybe that will
be a better fit for this film. EDIT: pics removed to save space.

Yeah, agree, crappy. I took them down, but your comment fits some if
not all the above.

Well congrats on your enthusiasm esp for pushing b/w film, but if my hobby was taking non static shots in very low light I would get a DSLR with IS.
For me I don't normally go over 400asa film and am mainly a fair weather shooter.

i shoot 400 asa only, simply because i teethed on tri-x, and despite advancing years, i can still guesstimate exposure pretty well. no room for a darkroom in my little cabin, and fine motor skills are shot anyway. a negative scanner is in my future. for now, walgreens gets my processing business ... Cool

Excalibur, thanks, I'll keep working at it.

Fish4570, I'm thinking CVS will get my color 35mm biz, I still have to
scan BW negs at home, both 35mm and 120.

i plan to obtain a neg scanner.

Epson online has the V500 (refurbed) for $134.10. Think it comes with
free shipping, too.
