i've got a praktica ltl3, and a pentax spotmatic body on the way. looking for a prime lens for the spot. here's what i've gleaned from e-bay watching that seems interesting:
yashinon 50-ds f1.9
helios 44-2 58 f/2
super takumar 55 f/2
super tak 35 f.3.5
smc tak 55 f/1.8
asanuma (tokina?) 35/2.8
fujinon ebc 35 f1.9
mamiya-sekor 500 dtl with 50 f2 (i'm interested in the lens, but why not have another beater screw mount body to boot for a good price?)

A Tak 1.4/50 would suit you Spotty well.

Out of the list given i would go for the smc tak 55 f/1.8 or the super tak 35mm f3.5 which is a great great lens.

My choice for lenses from what I own which should cover most shots for little expense, and the results are close to expensive lenses:-

super tak 35mm f3.5
and
Meyer Oreston 50mm f1.8
and
Kiron/Vivitar 70-150mm

anyone will be good Smile
though I don't even have it personally, out of your list, I'd first go for the Helios ( or a 1.8/50 resp. 2/50 Tak )
note that the 55/2 and 55/1.8 Takumars are the same lens optically with the f2 mechanically limiting the f setting to f2. Great lenses, SMC and S-M-C should have superior coating to the Super Taks ( not always true )
IMO a f1.4/50mm lens is best fun, in M42 I'd recommend the 1.4/50 Tak ( or a Yashinon ), but it may cost a bit more than the others
for 35mm on a budget a Tak 3.5/35mm must be one of the very best options, but I do not know the Fujinon ebc 35 f1.9

You might grab a Helios-44-2 since it should be really cheap and it has a different look. For a higher quality lens, the SMC Takumar 55mm f/1.8 may be best value as the f/1.4's can be tricky to find at a good price, but the f/1.8 is just as good (just not as fast). Also the 55mm f/2 should be about the same lens except with a permanent aperture stop installed, but in your list it's not multi-coated.

For a 35mm, I'd look into MIR-1 on a budget or a Flektogon otherwise.

(Remember that in eBay auctions the final price is determined in the last 10 seconds; if something looks cheap now, it'll still go up in the end. Check finished listings to see what everything actually sells for.)

The 0 serial numbers may have been made for Soviet VIPs or something, but unless you want to “collect” it, a regular copy should be about a third of the price.

I'm quite surprised, certainly on UK Ebay there's usually a 44-2 for £10 or less. It wouldn't be worth it in delivery costs though.

shipping cost puts the european and fsu lenses up to or above what can be bought closer to home on e-bay ...

i should know this but do not: is the helios 44-2 pre-set only? if so, that would not be for me ...

44-2 off the table because it is pre-set. 44-4 is on the table ...

I've had good results from both the 44M and 44M-4, both of which have an auto mode. Less blades, but the bokeh still has the swirl and IQ is excellent. These can also be picked up for bugger all money!
