Pentacon Six shutter problem

My P6 has developed a fault. At 1/125 (and only at 1/125) the shutter fires but the curtain doesn't close. At all other speeds it appears to operate properly. If I shoot at 1/125 so the curtain opens, it will stay open until either I rewind (pulling the first curtain back across with the second still unfired) or I switch to a different shutter speed, at which point the second curtain promptly shuts.

Does anybody have any idea what to do about this (apart from trying to find a repair shop, which isn't easy in Qatar)?

It's a common fault with P6. I'm afraid I don't know of a DIY cure. You'll just have to work around 1/125.

As I know they are quite difficult inside not easy to fix them, at leas my repair man said this.

Damn! I see that it is the old German sticky grease problem and apparently it gets worse and affects all the shutter speeds. The only answer is to get it properly fixed. I've a feeling Cupog has "sold" P6 CLAs on ebay, would he be the best option? Does anybody know a reliable, specialist P6 repairman who speaks English?

I guess I should check the P6 pages...

It is the camera I got that was stored in a US government vault from new, so it was never used which probably wasn't the best thing for its grease.

In the U.S., I'd recommend Eddy Smolov in NY. He repaired one of my P6s.

Thanks, Edward. I'm in the Middle East, so it is going to have to get mailed somewhere. I wrote to Baierfoto.de last night about it. They seem to be P6 specialists, and actually talk about this problem making a service essential, so I guess they will give it the best treatment. It's not cheap, but if the camera comes back in factory fresh condition, ready for the next 20 years, it will be worth it.
