I have previously written here about this older Minolta MC manual focus lens meant for use on a bellows. The oddness of the lens (small size, bellows, preset, large # of aperture blades) has encouraged me to try to use it as a non-macro lens.

I don't have good eyesight and have found that it is quite difficult for me to focus this lens for anything not very close to the camera. As it is via a macro adapter and also connected to a bellows, there is no focus confirmation to help things along. As a result a lot of my initial portrait pictures were a bit out of focus ruining them.

Here are a few of the pictures that I thought were worth salvaging. Nothing spectacular but it encourages me to try to take a few more pictures with this lens + bellows contraption just to see what the results look like.

Almost all the pictures were shot wide open at f/4. Some of the cloese up Missal ones at maybe f/5.6 or something. Everything was handheld on my Sony Alpha A350 using manual exposure and sometimes using the old Minolta 5200xi flash gun bounced off the ceiling.

Postprocessing is limited to Lightroom contrast, white balance. Export to facebook size.

I need to try this lens outside

Wow, magically sharp! How did you connect it to the Alpha? Bellows with A-mount on one end and Minolta MC on the other? Is there a glass element?

Thanks!

Super results, those old Minoltas are not slouches. Good composition too.

I used a glassless Minolta MD -> MA adapter. This adapter is quite thick which is fine for bellows work although I'm looking for a thin glasses adapter so that I can use some of my MD lenses without any glass for shorter distance portraits.

I also have the glass adapter and it does screw up with the picture quality and sharpness of anything attached to it.

Thanks a lot! Just some random pictures from a Sunday morning. Holding up this bellows contraption and having to focus by adjusting bellows and moving closer/further makes it an "interesting" way to do portraits. Smile
