Thank you patrick. I've noticed though that using close up filters isn't exactly the same as using dedicated macro lenses (that is, not as sharp). I don't want to invest in an AF one but I assume that there are some excellent MF macro lenses. Your gear list has one.
I'm going to research this forum about the top 3 macro lenses but I'd appreciate pointers in the right direction. Thank you. _________________ Digital: Canon 450D

Might I suggest the Kiron 105mm F2.8 macro or any of it's variants ( Vivitar Series One or the Lester A Dine ) they all go to 1:1...I have the Dine model & it has served me well. I also have a 55mm F2.8 Micro Nikkor (goes to 1:2), the 90mm F2.8 Vivitar macro (1:1 Komine version) & the 135mm F2.8 Close Focus Vivitar (again, Komine made goes to 1:2)....Most any true macro lens will serve you fairly well. Just stay away from the zooms with a "macro" feature as they won't be as good... _________________ Cameras-Nikon D300, D7100,D610,FE2,FTN ,FT2,N90s, Olympus Pen EP-3 & Olympus OM-D E-M10

I invested in extension tubes (cheaper) and I will check how well they do soon.
I also miss a macro lens in my set and looking forward to see the results of your search about this (me lazy ass lol) _________________ Camera : Yashica Electro 35 GS, Canon 450D, Konica C35 AF

erm you missed out mentioning the Vivitar 55mm f2.8 macro, it's very good, but do not have the other lenses you mention to compare.
And I find some zooms can be very good for closer shots, and IMHO would be ok for these dolls shots esp for posting on a computer screen.
Also a sharp/cheap m42 Meyer Oreston 50mm f1.8 can focus down to about 12 inches which can be useful at times, this too might be ok for the doll shots . _________________ Canon A1, AV1, T70 & T90, EOS 300 and EOS300v, Chinon CE and CP-7M.
