Hello all! I am very interested in seeing what you folks use as a BASIC,
no frills kit for fairly lightweight travel.

My kit below consists of quite a variance of lenses (M42), but it does
cover my basic needs. Anything in-between focal ranges can be
adjusted by using my feet as a zoom. Very Happy

Nothing hugely special here, except for the remarkable CV
Apo-Lanthar 90/3.5SP, but all of the other lenses show nice
output too.

This is an admittedly sparse group, but it works fine for me. Even though
the majority of the lenses aren't "high end" lenses, I hope to get
around that by trying to be careful with composition and exposure. Confused

Edit: You can see my backup camera in the cabinet in the background, the
Yashica Electro 35G. That always goes along for the ride with my basic kit.

Left to right:
Mikar S 55/4.5 Macro
Helios extension tube set
CV Apo-Lanthar 90/3.5 SP mounted to Revueflex 3003
Takumar 55/1.8
Soligor C/D 35-70 zoom
Tele-Takumar 300/6.3 and hood

Well it would depend on where I was going, but I always take two cameras as it's quicker to use another camera than to change a lens and for backup and sometimes different film...sometimes I hang two around my neck, and I don't care if people find it amusing, so I rarely travel that light.
But going to my grandson's nativity play thought this would cover most problems with distance and poor light (flash not allowed whilst acting) and would be ok sitting amongst the parents, so it's about the lightest/smallest I can think of (well I could use Olympus but haven't a f1.4 lens).

Fuji 1600 asa
X-700 with 28-85 zoom
50mm f1.4
P&S Nikon

But when cycling use a back pack and I take a few more lenses.

My lightweight basic kit+ Olympus XA:

To tell you the truth, M40/2.8 usually replaced with a A50/1.7...

My current kit is a Yashica FR and its 50mm Planar, otherwise its the RX fitted with the same lens. Its light, but the RX is also quite handy for everyday shots. Film is mostly b&w, current is Ilford Pan 400 for this light conditions.

Thank you, mylord. Wink

OK, here it comes.
The thing is that I don't have one set that I use all the time, but rather one set that changes a lot.

This is what I had in my bag yesterday:

A Canon EOS 40D and an EOS 5D with these lenses:
- Sigma EX 1.8/24
- Tokina AT-X ProII 2.6-2.8/28-70
- Tokina AT-X Pro 4/12-24
- Sigma 18-125 OS
- Leica Summicron-R 2/50
- Leica Elmar-R 4/180
(These lenses offer me a pretty fast 12 to 288mm.)
- normal stuff (batteries, cards, filters etc. in blue bag), white balance cap...
Normally, the Leica Summicron-R 2/35 would also be part of it, but this one needs to go to the service.
And mostly another manual lens is being added to this set (Nikkor, Zuiko, Tak, Tamron etc.)

And here in this shot you also can see a Ricoh FF-1. I often have a small film camera in my bag, just for the fun of it.
Ah, and yes, my Lumix FX37 (which has taken this shot) is always with me.

If I feel like shooting on film, I like this set a lot:

Asahi Spotmatic SPII, with Taks 3.5/35, 1.4/50, 2.8/105, 3.5/135.

Or for rangefinder days:

FED-3b with Jupiter-8 2/50 and Jupiter-12 2.8/35 and a Gossen LunaSix 3.

And sometimes, for film days without bags:

Yashica Electro 35GS

I'm currently re-discovering the K mount with that :

And I have two Spotmatics SPII black with B&W film (APX 400, one will be pushed at 800 for test), often used with the Auto Takumar 85/1.8 Smile

@kansalliskala: Nice Tamron!

@CarbonR: Many say, it's so 80s, but I like the design of the P30 a lot. Embarassed

WOW, great stuff.

When I'm going to travel or spend a day at photography, it's almost silly how I have to plan and plot... I rarely take more than 2 lenses, often only one - or even one of the Retinas so I don't even have a choice. Plus, often I have to decide which 120 camera to bring as well... Laughing

This summer, these were my two main selections, and I've pictured these as they are less of a menagerie than most of the stuff I'd bring. (For example, I'll use a mechanical shutter camera if I'm going to be out in freezing weather all day long)...

First, my wider set:

24-35-55macro-105

Then my tiny lens set:

28-35-50-105

I don't like going longer than 105, and often the 28 is plenty wide.

I love the Tamron 35-80 SP...NICE!

Carbon: Wonderful set!

Nesster: You are ready for just about anything! I know your
dilemma - I have to consider each "kit" for what I want to shoot.
Whether it be medium format, 35 SLR, or 35 rangefinder - Electro 35 -
it's all fun!

The P30 is a fine looking piece of equipment.

Wow- some nice kits you are showing.

Last time I needed to travel, I decided to go light also, I carried a Contax T2 and the Yashica 35GSN. In one Cam iso 200 in the other iso 800.

I took 229 pictures on a 30 days walk using this set-up. I liked it, because I had to think in photographic all the time, and it is nice to have something to think about on such a trip.

If any one like to see the series it is online here (also all the bad pictures):

Henrik, it's so nice to see them sprawled with the films. Like a family picnic.

The SP35-80 is one I love too, I've had one since brand new in '85.

Here's what I actually take when the weather's bad:

(Plus, I plain like the photo so I needed an excuse to show it here Wink )

I dont like it, too many plastic. But I like the "chlonk" of the shutter, far from the shaky shutter of the K100D Smile

Yes. That's why most people don't like it. But it reminds me of Star Trek. Wink

lahnet and nesster: BEAUTIFUL presentations of your cameras! I wouldn't
mind seeing a thread where you try to take as beautiful images as
possible of camera gear. Hmmmm....maybe I should start one? Surprised
