Probably my favourite bikes of all time Very Happy Is it a Venom(500cc) or a Viper(350cc)? Superb condition anyway I used to know a guy in N.Ireland with a Velocette Venom Thruxon, very similar to this but with a huge 2" Amal Grand Prix carb, so big the fuel tank had to cut away at the back to make it fit. Awesome noise too Shocked

I guess I'm an old fart. I have a small collection of motorcycles. The newest is 21 years old. The oldest is 35 years old. Here are the two oldest:

Lovely bikes posted here.

This one is not common, I bought it about 20 years ago, never seen the rain and only done 4,000 miles...problem is the carbs are blocked by crap from petrol when left standing.

Nice looking old Honda. Great bikes. I picked up a fondness for the old Yamaha XS650s after picking up a used one for cheap about 10 years ago:

I now own four of them in various states of repair.

One advantage of old bikes was they were so easy to repair and service and were lighter in weight.
My lovely Yamaha 250cc (not my actual bike) that I regret selling to buy a heavy, complicated Honda 750cc that you can't leave standing not used, for too long.

Cool looking old Yammy.

I agree that bikes like the XS650 are easy to work on for the most part, but they too are touchy about being left to sit up for too long. The carbs are easily fouled. Seafoam in the tank helps, but I've had to pull the carbs and clean them several times after leaving the bike sitting for a few months. Just part of the routine of owning one of these old machines if you don't ride them often enough.

I had one like that 10 years ago. I wouldn't mind having one again.

They're still relatively common, and relatively inexpensive. Yamaha built over 100,000 of them between 1970 and 1984. The ones in highest demand are the 77-79 standards, so they often fetch a premium. Most common are the 79 and up Specials. The one in the photo is an 81 Special. It's a hoot to ride. I'm in the middle of a cafe racer style project with a '78 standard. Dunno when I'll ever get finished with it, but that will be one fun bike when it's done.

One of the great things about the old XS650 is there is an excellent supply of new, used, and performance parts available for it.

Found an old print of my 650 Special. Not the best image quality.
Maybe a bit OT. Hopefully not too much

I´ll get there Embarassed I have to actually shoot the pictures and it is in a garage covered in 10 years of "don´t throw it out honey, I can just put it in the garage" stuff.

In the meantime here is a picture taken in 1985 of my Yamaha. Sorry about the quality.

Fantastic!
I love these old bikes. It's a bit like with old lenses, they just look better. Laughing
