Hi;
I want to offer a lens to my little brother. He got an olympus e510
and not very satisfed about his kit lenses.
I have 2 mount adapter (C/Y and Pentax K)
and i want to find a good lens for him for portraiture; but cheap one
Have you any experience with oly + manual lenses ?
Which lenses did you think good ?
Do you think that a split screen is needy ?

Your choice of adapters and your budget suggest just a few lenses. First, Yashica ML 50/1.9, 50/2 or 50/1.7 depending on your budget ($10-20 for 1.9 and 2.0, about $30-40 for 1.7). Those slower Yashicas (make sure to get ML versions) offer a very nice rendering and handling of flare. My review of Yashica ML 50/1.9 is here http://www.prime35.com/yashica-ml-50mm-f-1-9/
Zeiss lenses (e.g. Planar 50/1.7) would probably be slightly better than YML glass, but they hardly fit your suggested budget.
In PK mount, a great budget lens is SMC Pentax-M 50/2. It is sharp, contrasty, and has excellent colors. Can be had for less than $35. If you are willing to pay more, all other SMC Pentax 50mm lenses are great; however, you probably don't need 'A' versions as their only benefit if automatic aperture control on Pentax bodies. _________________ List of lenses |

Fully agree with Attila, I got mine for 9,90€ at CashMovers and it's one of the sharpest lenses I've got on the Oly.
This is a sample with the E-330:
Even if you have to buy an OM to 4/3 adapter.

Congrats with the Pentax-M.
A very good lens indeed.
By the way, this is E 510 with Rokkor MD 50/1.4 (wide open):
To my knowledge it is sharper wide open than Pentax M 50/1.4.
Since 4/3 is the only format that can easily adapt Rokkor lenses (beside micro 4/3 of course) - you can get some handsome deals with it. The demand for Rokkors are not that great I guess (except some legendary like 58/1.2 which people are willing to pull the effort to convert it).
