Nice little fellas indeed. Focus spot on and quite sharp, great result for being hand held with the mighty Bigma and TC.

The Bigma comes through again! Nice shots of the cardinals -- and those other birds. I'm not a birder, so I dunno what they are.
I've seen some impressive shots taken with this lens, and I'm tempted, but leaning more toward the 150-500, mostly because it has OS. I think either one, however, is a good alternative to the Canon EF 100-400 L. _________________ Michael

Thanks guys. Don't know about the Canon lens but the 150-500 Sigma is a pretty good one. Believe it or not it has taken me over a year to get comfortable with this lens. Long lenses do take different settings and techniques. I started out thinking how easy this would be and found out how truly difficult it can be. A suggestion here to those who wish to start using one....More light...and then more light....You can use a higher ISO to get faster speeds but that6 usually comes with noise. Practice keeping everything perfectly still as the tiniest movement is magnified and will show up as blur. Use 1/125 sec shutter speed as the baseline starting point to help with the movement blur. _________________ Big Dawg |

I'm not surprised by this at all. I found, especially with long lenses I own and have owned in the past, that it takes a fair amount of practice with them before I start getting consistently good results. But using 1/125 as a baseline with the longer focal lengths tells me that you must have a very steady hand, indeed. I could only get away reliably with 1/125 hand held with my longer lenses when panning with moving objects. Like race cars, which I did a lot of back in the day. And even then, I had a fair number of misses for every hit. Still do, come to think of it. _________________ Michael

The Pentax has a in-built stabilizer so the 1/125 isn't impossible. Anyhow it is a long shutter time for such a long focal length. _________________ DSLR: K-5,K20d+Grip, Ist*Ds

I actually do quite well at 1/90 sec when the subject is closer than the 25-35 feet distance here. It seems the closer the less blur or my mind says that anyway. Thanks to all who have stopped in to view these and thank you for the kind comments. _________________ Big Dawg |
