Hi,

yesterday evening I went with my son to the next soccer stadium to visit the match between Borussia Dortmund and Mainz 05 ( 1. national league). This stadium is the largest we own here in Germany and has a capacity of 86.000 visitors.

To take photos there is normally a job for a 1DMkIII and 2.8/300, 400 or 500 or something else. Yesterday I decided for a Pana G1 with Canon FD 1.4/50 and CZ sonnar 2.8/90. It´s like mission impossible.

Floodlight, high ISO, manuell focus, quick game - not the best makings.
Anyway - the results are surprisingly.

Here we go

warm up

and here some impressions

Thanks for viewing and comments

Wink

fantastic photos,Were you very close to the action?Amazing for MF you did very well,I have been to Cricket and rugby matches and only used auto not MF!

I want to ask when it's on auto Focus would the camera hunt for focus or does it do well and take what you want it to?

Thank you. We have had a seat in the first row so we were near by the field.

I never used the Panasonic G1 for sport shooting before. This cam is "only" for trying out the different types of lenses. With my "big" Canon bodies it is much easier to shot such images, because you can tune the AF for automatic tracking the object (AI Servo AF focus tracking system) and with a range of 9-10 pics per second one will be ok Wink

Thanks,I love sport so that would be a consideration for buying a Dslr that can capture the images/action of the game.
Front row I am envious...best venue I have been to for seeing the action of live sport was the "Cake tin" in Wellington NZ to view a one day cricket game.

My son is sitting in a wheel chair. So you see - no reason to be envious Sad

Here a pic when he was in action yesterday evening

Sad In that respect no.....I am glad they supply a place to view the game from...how is the access to the stadium?
Rolf that would be an interesting photo "shoot" trials faced with wheel chair access.I never realized how hard it can be until I worked in aged care for a little while.

to Rolf :
Very good pictures. I think it's great to do activities with your son. Once I've lost the use of my left hand for 5 months due to an accident and by this way I've got a look into a handicapped person life.

to Poilu :
I tested the embedded picture. One can make a printout of 16 cm without any PP and A3 with very slight PP.
