These are test shots to see if I like this film/developer combo using the
Contax 137MA and Yashica ML 2.8/28 lens:

Epson 4490 scans

Using the 1:1 dilution, thinking I like this developer and will probably homebrew it when I order the rest of the chems from Artcraft.

Walmart just raised their prices on color film developing from $1.90 per
roll to $3.20. The ma and pa place devs color print 120 film for $4. Looks
like I'll be shooting mostly BW and color 120. Wink

Based on pic 2 & 3 the rendition is pretty good. i haven't used D76 , nor the Arista film, which may be some rebadged right ?

Nice samples Bill. D76 is what gave me always the most consistent result with 100 iso , even if maybe not the best possible. If you're going to home brew maybe this might be of your interest: http://www.jackspcs.com/dd76v.htm. I remember you were playing with two-bath some time ago.

You might want to try to home develop. It's no more difficult than BW, you only need a large plastic tub for the tempering bath.

Yes, it's commissioned by Freestyle Photo. Not sure what really is, they just say "major brand".

Cheers, M.

Hexi and Marty, thanks for your comments. Arista Premium 400 is rebadged
Tri-X, dunno what the 100 is.

Marty, formula looks interesting, but will probably go with the one bath recipe and use it as a one-shot developer, 1:1.

I think you should be pleased with that combo Bill. Looks great to me.

Thanks, Peter, will be using this combo some more, but think it does a decent job. Like the tight grain for such a cheap film.

Really looks nice Bill. I've never used D-76 on 4x5 but I think I'll try some next week.

Cheers

Jules

I think in a yellow box, the speed is 125 Wink

I like your results very much indeed

Jules and Jussi, thanks for your comments.

Jules, very curious to see how D-76 does with 4x5.

Jussi, so you think AP 100 is 125PX? I thought it might be TMAX 100. The
film does come in the Kodak canister.

The developing times are the same as for 125PX, TMAX 100 takes 1 minute more in D-76... That's the main hint.

Cool, since AP100 is $1.89 per roll vs $4.69 for the 125PX. I'll have to give
it some thought as to which one I want to buy. Laughing Though the grain in
AP 100 is not bad at all, it isn't quite in TMAX country.

I am liking what I get with 1:1 d-76 one-shot and Arista Premium 400, and one roll of Acros 100. Still no scanner, though, so I can show 'em off ...

Good results, methinks. Nice, even density. I look for shadow detail and yours is good.

I've used Plus-X 125 and Tri-X 400 with D76 for years, always with good results. In fact, D76 is the only developer I've ever used, and have never seen a reason to use another.

Thanks, Michael, I'm sold on D-76, like the results and favor one-shot
developers.

I've always mixed up a whole batch of D-76 and then keep track of the number of uses, adjusting developing time accordingly. But I've just bought a new pack of it, and I'd like to give it a try as a one-shot mixture.

Need to read up on it some more to get the recommended dilution ratios for one-shot developing. What do you use?

Ditto, from what I've read, using stock solution doesn't buy you much.
With 1:1, it goes twice as far.
