It was too late in the day when I left the office for any hope of testing out my new lenses, but I managed to grab some birds on the way home with the $20 swap meet Soligor. It vignettes pretty hard, but I think it's a keeper.

Nice.
Post up some pictures of the lens itself, and you'll learn whether
it's a 'good' copy.
I have one of these lenses myself, and it seems to be of excellent
quality. Tokina-made, mine is of M42 mount, with a serial number
starting with 17. There's another number prefix which identifies
Tokina-made Soligor lenses of this class, though I cannot positively
identify it at this time.
My copy is nearly mint, and I have yet to really get it out with my camera
in real-world situations. I paid US $35 for mine. _________________ Craig

Mine's a 42 and starts with 17, too, but this one is worn and looks like it's been banged into things more than a few times. I don't mind.

I think Tokina made 17 starts the SN.
Vignetting is underrated in my book. I like it to come from the lens rather than PP. Sometimes it really works.
Maybe not here though.

It's definitely big. My opinion on vignette wavers based on the photo. I think I must have left the lens shade out to get this much of it, but I honestly don't remember b/c I grabbed it so fast. I'll make a point of checking it next time to make sure.
These are mostly grackles, but there might be a few starlings in their group. |

Yes, it certainly is.
It might weigh as much as 3 times more than my Soligor 400mm prime,
and they're both Tokina made lenses. _________________ Craig

Thanks for the comments. The fading light really made for a nice flat background. I'll get to see it in 16x20 soon.
I thought of the Hitchcock film, too.
Maybe I will complain about other lenses I *need* on the way to the swap meet. It might work more than once, right? |
