Above mentioned lens, from which I have the aluminium coloured M39-version (#6880963), is said to be very prone to flare. After receiving this little thing at some moment last summer, I did some test shots and I was very disappointed by the IQ: certain areas of my pictures were completely washed out, and I thought I had a Monday morning copy.
After doing some more shots with this lens, I must say it usually delivers very fine pics. However, in certain situations the results lack contrast, and this appears to be serious flare. These two shots are made from the same position, just under a table lamp. The first one is an unprotected shot, but in the second one I protected the lens from direct lamp-light with my hand. The lamp is about 40cm left above the can.

It seems to be the only major fault with the Industar 50 Alex photo goods on ebay used to have a big box of the push on hoods for them on sale for not much, (also for the Jupiter9 and Helios 44) he may still have them I always use one with mine. Other people here have made hoods for them out of plastic film cartons I remember. If you buy one be sure to measure the lens there are at least two sizes of filter ring |

I've just won one of these so thanks for the tip about flare. It's a shame that such a small lens needs a stonking great hood. Kind of defeats the purpose. _________________ Casual attendance these days |

Well, if you avoid direct light in the lens, you can do perfectly well without hood! If you visit my blog, the post of today has some examples, all without hood.... _________________ Rense

Yep it does, it was designed for 35mm and it looks longer and more pointy than it is, you could always use a shorter wider hood but they are not so easy to find @ 35.5mm. |

I did the same, in fact I think I got the idea from you Helios about the film cannister. I bought the the KMZ hood because I was already buying a lens from Alex on ebay and it wasn't expensive, of course later I ended up with another when I bought a Zenit C. This is how I know they come in 2 different widths, |
