Hi,

I just recieved my M42 to Pentax Adapter today and was at least able to try out my new Asahi Pentax Super Takumar 55 1.8.

It came with a original Pentax Multicoated UV-Filter on it and I adored the construction for a week now, until my adapter arrived!

This day is bad weather but here are some sample pictures with this lense mounted to my Samsung GX 20.

All of these pictures are without postprocessing, just converted to jpeg in aperture! All of them seem to have higher saturation on my monitor in aperture, then they have after I post them to the forum.

Anyway! I really like this lens! And even though I really liked my Nikkor AF 50mm 1.8 alot, this lens kicks ass!

Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Cheers,

Karhallarn

Looks really nice! And they look plenty saturated on my screen so don't worry about that

This lens has a legendary reputation.
And your impressions seem to support that.

I like my Takumars as well, but I have never used a 1.8/55.

Lovely Smile

With regards posting photos on the forum, I always convert the RAW file to SRGB and then save as JPG. That way the internet browser can interpret the colours properly.

You're certainly starting with a cheap classic - a lens whose performance is far above its cost, even when new. On balance I tend to use my 55's more often than my 50/1.4's, though it has more to do with the fov than performance.

This is a very good lens ! and I love to shoot with it.
I find it's very good for portrait and all around shooting.

If you're saving with sRGB, don't stress over it. Photoshop/Aperature/Lightroom basically shows what a photo will look like on a color managed browser with correct calibration. I get the washed out look once I save/upload on my macbook pro, but the color looks perfect when it's plugged into my cinema display. Why? Because I cannot, for the life of me, get the calibration perfect on a laptop. Ever. The color shift issue on save is the bane of digital photographers and designers, but your image isn't changing, just the way it displays on different monitors.
