Two lucky buys on ebay and now I have -
Thats two Argus C44 rangefinder bodies, with 50/2.8 lenses, a 100/3.5 and a 35/4.5 Steinheil for Argus C44 - which pretty much sums up the available lenses for this system, except for the rare 50/1.9. All with original hoods and cases, plus Series V filters and etc. for the 50mm.
And best of all, the Argus turret viewfinder for 35-50-100mm with parallax correction. Made in Lichtenstein of all places.
All working !
And thats a Kaligar finder for 35mm on the other body.
The lenses - 100mm, 50mm, 35mm with hoods, and the finder again.
The Argus C44 is a fairly limited camera, shutter speeds only go from 10-300 plus B. On the other hand, its got quite a nice and bright rangefinder/viewfinder compared to a Leica III series, the shutter doesn't go wrong much, and its much quicker and easier to load film, and if you need a replacement body they are around for next to nothing. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

Thats right, the C44's are not rare. The 100mm lens is fairly common also, the 35mm is a bit harder to find. The turret viewfinder is quite uncommon. There is another style that is more often seen. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

That little turret finder turns up with different names on it - Diax and Steinheil come to mind. Super little outfit you have there. _________________ Stephen

I believe the low price was the result of the seller using the "forty-four" spelled out rather than "44". I happened on it while using just "argus" as a search. Sometimes the search criteria used on eBay makes a difference. |
