I would reply yes to both questions ...
Browse to my blog at http://k10dpentax.blogspot.com/, then select the Repair link in the menu on the right ...
Between the posts, there are some showing how to remove fungus traces from various lenses (fixed five different, up to now) ...
But, be warned: if the fungus has lasted too much time on your lens, it may have damaged the coating ...
Hope this helps

I purchased this Aus Jena Pancolar 1.8 50mm lens off ebay. I got it for $30 USD. I am new to checking and cleaning lenses It is what I believe to be an exakta mount version. I figured it was that much because it doesn't have the Zeiss name on it and the mount version. I purchased an adapter for it but was not able to use it yet. After reading on these forums about fungus and so forth. I inspected all my lenses and I am wondering what is this...?

Hello Heezzi, I moved the thread here for you.
The "aus Jena" name has nothing to do with the mount version. This lens was built at the old Zeiss factory at Jena in East Germany, but they were forced by a court ruling to drop the Zeiss brandname on all lenses exported to the West, so that there wouldn't be confusion with lenses made at the new Zeiss factory at Oberkochen in West Germany, which was a separate company in those days.
Whatever name is on the ring, if your lens has a bayonet mount then it is highly probably it's an Exakta mount. If it has a threaded mount it will be the M42 version.
That's definitely fungus I can see in the picture and I support what indianadinos has told you. _________________ Peter - Moderator |

Just as I figured, a exakta mount. I ordered an adapter but it hasn't come yet. I don't know if the fungus shows up in the shots. Anxious to find out. I am not lens savy. Is it worth paying a camera shop to clean it? Or should I go buy another lens? |
Depend from cleaning cost at your location. Pretty common lens you can buy another one, it has easy construction , no trouble with cleaning. _________________ -------------------------------
