First of all, I don't know whether if this post is well posted in this section or it would be better in the Film SLR section. If any admin sees this, please feel free to correct it Very Happy.

It's been many months and I gathered many nikon non ai lenses. To get more potential and use from these lenses I'm looking for a cheap nikon body that can mount non ai lenses. I use a handheld meter so I really don't care about "in camera lightmeter". Any recommendation guys Very Happy?

Thanks!

Oddly enough, get a Canon. The adapters work well, the 40D is on a par with the D200. The only nikons that will mount pre-ai without risk are the lower level DSLR's. You could also look at Pentax, Olympus etc

Nikon FE and FM. I have the FE and it works beautifully with both AI and pre-AI lenses. Meters even. With a bit of shopping they are not expensive.

If you already have a Full frame digital body they mount to, I fail to see how you need a film body to help them reach their full potential. The 5D sensor is fantastic in every regard and takes advantage of the full lens.

If you are just looking for a film body for fun, then proceed... Smile

That's it Very Happy. Even if I have a full frame DSLR, I recently discovered film Very Happy and for me it's just magic. I'll look for a FE o r FM Very Happy.

FM2n is about as much as you ever can wish for: reliable & durable, mechanically very good with controls that leave nothing to wish for.

Watch out! While the FE and FM will accept non-AI lenses (the meter tab flips up), the FE2 and FM2 will not. They have plastic one-piece aperture coupling rings with tabs, which can be broken when mounting a non-AI lens.

I can second the recommendation for the FM or FE. Both are great, compact cameras. I like the FM because it's all manual/mechanical, but I like the FE because, while battery dependent, it has match-needle metering.

If you don't care about having a meter, there are lots of Fs and F2s out there with non-functioning meters that can be picked up for reasonable because of this "issue." The Nikon F is built like a tank. The F2 is also very rugged, but it saw some refinements. Nikkormats are hard to beat too for their ruggedness and reliability -- I'd be on the lookout for either an FTN or FT2 in that regard.

...A cheap Nikon 35mm film body?...That would be either a FM or FE. I'd get the FE if I were you, as it has both manual and aperture priority automatic exposure control, and has excellent handling characteristics.

If it is non-Ai you would want to take advantage of full-aperture metering. While the FM and FE would not allow that. For my money, I would opt for a Nikkormat FT2: non-Ai coupling with full-aperture metering, and unlike the FTn it takes easily available button cells for its meter. But if you want exposure automation, the Nikkormat EL or ELW might be the ticket but be certain the electronics work well before committing.

If cilinderman (or anyone else) is interested, I actually have a Nikkormat FT-N that I've been meaning to sell. I bought it with a couple of lenses, but didn't actually want the body.

Quite good condition, and has the original leather case (strap's very worn, but otherwise good). The light meter works, but seems to be severely miscalibrated (consistently underexposes by 2 stops from memory). If you're interested, I can take some photos and write a proper description (I was hoping for ~EUR55 + postage, if this seems reasonable).

If you plan on using non-ai then nothing beats the EL cameras. Smile

I have a decent collection of Nikons and to honest they are all very nice cameras.
