I have a problem. Actually, I have many problems, and this is just one of them. My in-laws used Minolta SRT-101's with some fine glass, for the time. The old man was a detective but these were for vacation use and were kept meticulously clean. The cameras are in near-mint condition. The lenses are even better. They are:
* Minolta MC W-Rokkor-SI.... 28/2.5
* Minolta MC Rokkor-PF........ 55/1.7
* Minolta MC Tele Rokkor-PF 100/2.5
* Minolta MC Tele Rokkor-HF 300/4.5
My widowed mother-in-law would like me to sell the lot. The last time I looked on eBay, the SRT-101's could hardly be given away. I see various MD lenses selling, but not MC's. Is this a hopeless cause? Should we try to sell them at a church rummage sale for US$10 total, or is there any demand for them at all, somewhere? _________________ Too many film+digi cams+lenses, oh my -- Pentax K20D, K-1000, M42s, more

If the lenses has a milled metal focusing ring, they are the first MC generation or they should belong to the second MC generation. The MD version is is made after the thrid MC generation.

Why don't you sell them on our marketplace.
Us prices.
28 2.5 $50
55 1.7 $20
100 2.5 $70
300 4.5 $70
Alot of Srt's that sell on Ebay are in as is condition. I think $20- $25 each is fair if there is more than one.
These are approx. prices and they can vary.
But if you want to sell them at $10 total, I'd buy them. _________________

Nice stuff RioRico; I am surprised you are not tempted to expose some film. The old saw sings 'Try it, you'll like it." Exchange a Ben Franklin for the lot; you should be able to get that if you don't like it, probably more, and add to the exchange any profit. The 28/2.5 is a gem. At the time, it was a quite advanced 9 element design.

Yes, MC lenses are earlier versions, but still very good. Problems is that Minolta changed their mount (bastards!!!) when they went to AF, and also changed the register, so these are usually difficult to convert. The 50mm f/1.7 is very common. The others are more interesting. I will be interested in the 100mm, but I'd like to see a picture of the mount. Some of those mounts are a nightmare to even consider converting. Please PM me with a picture if you want to talk about it _________________ Regards,

Please don't put them up for sale without letting me know! I could use the 100mm too, but I wouldn't dream of converting the mount. _________________ Peter - Moderator |

There's another option. Keep the lot!!!!
Give her $50-$100.
THEN buy a second hand Panasonic G1 (probably $200-$250), and USE the lenses with an adapter on digital!!!!
A lot of people don't know how good these old Minolta MC lenses are. |

That's what I'm planning with my recent purchase of the MC 58/1.4
I also have the SRT101 and I agree it would be a shame not to put a film through it, even if you only do it so you can sell it as 'film tested'. |

That's really tempting, as neither of us is totally broke. But then I'd kick myself for already selling those Canon 50/1.4's, one an SSC, and a 200/4 SSC. And all the Russian LTMs and a couple Leitz's. Ah well, it's selling those that'd pay for keeping these and a G1. And then I'd be tempted to buy more short-register lenses. I'm doomed...
