I am expecting a Canon FL 58/1.2, which needs to be fixed.
Is it difficult to convert this lens to EOS (or M42 or Nikon)?

Any tips?

BTW ... does anyone have experience with this lens, how is the IQ?

My local expert replace my canon FD lens end to Nikon end , he use Nikon T mount for this conversation.

No...Its very easy to convert to EF or SA mount...I converted mine to SA mount...The biggest problem you will have is machining 2mm off the lenses mounting boss (the bit the mounting plate screws onto.). If you dont do this you wont be able to use the lens at infinity focus. (EF and SA registration distance is 44mm but FL and FD registration distnce is 42mm)

Its got great bokeh and its razor sharp stopped down a tad but it also quite usable WO, with well controlled CA.

I can re-mount only for Olympus 4/3 for infinity. It's hard to do this for Canon EOS. Crying or Very sad

Alf, I remember you making a comment somewhere, sometime about the relative merits of the FL 55/1.2 and FL 58/1.2 lenses both in terms of performance and conversion to EF or SA. I have one of each, and am wondering which one to tackle first.

Thanks,
Zandr

Whoops...I was actually referring to the FL 55mm f1.2 not the FL 58mm f1.2.
Apparently the 58mm is harder to convert than the 55mm but both need machining to reach infinity focus.
The 58mm is an older version and its only single coated but the 55mm has at least two coatings...In fact the 55mm is the exactly the same optically as the first version of the FD 55mm f1.2.

I've converted an FL 58mm F1.2 to a 4/3 mount.

FL lenses are WAY easier to convert than FD, because the aperture ring is near the front of the lens, rather than near the mount.

There are actually sharper lenses out there, with more contrast, by the way.....

oh, i know, got mine at kitamura (i see you're in japan, so figure you know the store name) down here in okinawa for like 7000 yen, couldn't pass it up when a friend of mine told me how easy FL lenses are to convert. I'm planning on doing EOS mount for my 5D.

Yep, I've bought at Kitamura before.....

If you get to Tokyo, there is a tiny second hand camera & lens shop in Electric Town. Lenses are cheap, and you can find some gems!!
e.g. Minolta Rokkor MD 85mm F2, perfect condition, $1500 yen!!!!! (about $15 USD)
