Last week I had to drive 1,200 miles from where I live in Oregon to Tucson in Arizona. On my 40D I had the Takumar 135/3.5 and the Takumar 28/3.5 for their first road trip. The journey took me through
1. Lake Tahoe

2 Las Vegas

3. Hoover Dam

4. Arizona Saguaro Park

The saguaro cactus grows an "arm" when it is over 75 years old, and a new "arm" at roughly the same interval. The flower opens at night and is usually gone before mid-morning.

Cracking shots, Patrick.
I don't envy the first planty-type person who sat and watched one for 75 years with a notebook and pencil at the ready Smile

Thank you all. I took them mainly as mementos - I do not think I shall make that trip again if I can help it. Very Happy Very Happy

Superb set, I really enjoyed.

What exactly are the American's putting in the sky to make them such a beautiful shade of blue? Shocked

It's the desert - very clear dry air. I saw it before in the Sahara when I worked there. Also at night the sky is absolutely full of stars.

Lovely photos. I know my weak point. I have something with those blue skies. Smile

Patrick,
I almost missed these pictures since they are in the Café.
What a shame, they deserve the Gallery forum !
Thanks for having taken us to new places (well... new for me)
I love the "travel diary" concept.
The best ones for me are the first one and the one with the windows in Las Vegas. But all of them are interesting. I didn't know that Saguaro can grow so old. Amazing!

Beautiful series!
One can really feel the depth in the first one.
And the cactus shots are great.
