Can it be used with digital (NEX etc.) or does it suffer the same problem as the Jupiter-12?

Same I think , I didn't try yet into adapter, but J12 basically same lens than this I don't think so this is shorter.

If I'm not mistaken, there is a version of biogon in contax mount that protubes less deeply..

If it works on the NEX I get the feeling you won't let it go!

not works still goes into body +3mm at least than acceptable, I think I will not let to go anyway, pre-war with red T an near mint not come to often. I saw only this one locally under years, early RED T is very rare.

No. FWIW, the mount to shutter distance on pre and post war Contaxes is the same, and so is the depth of the lenses (which don't get that close to the film in the case of the - not that wide angle - 35mm). It is the upper curtain roll of the IIa/IIIa that is hit by the rather wide barrel of the pre war Biogon. The post war West German (Opton) Biogon rear barrel is more narrow to fit the IIa/IIIa - but it tends to go for three or four times the price of T coated Jena ones, at no significant improvements otherwise. So far, I have no confirmation that the Opton Biogon fits the Nex, and I have no inclination to be the one that pays for the experiment...
