Usually the Canadian Ground Dogwood (Cornus canadensis)
forms a very low groundcover in the deeper forests. However, closer
to the ocean where there are cedar bogs, they tend to climb up the
old weathered trunks of the Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata).

An amazing thing about the canadensis, is that they fire off their
seeds from an organic mechanism that is exactly like a Trebuchet!
With this spring action potential, it releases the seeds at a relative
speed that is in the hundres of miles per hour. Plants do amazing
things.

Interesting story about the plant. Do you have any macro capture on the mechanism?

Very nice capture as well. Almost like a B/W background.

Nice photo!...We are lucky living here in western WA state, as there are many places to go to get some wonderful nature shots.

Well done, Larry!

I love the contrast between the tree colours and the Velvia greens. Composition very well balanced. The sharpness of that lens is remarkable.

One day I should try a Pentax 645 like yours...

Jes.
