Just a little something out of complete boredom,

I took a few shots in my backyard with my Vorn (Tokina) 200mm.
This lens can be had dirt cheap and I find I like it.

Tokina lenses are good as your samples show it, nice captures. This little bird very common here too, but unfortunately lot more rare than 20 yrs before-

Nice captures, and very smooth rendering of the background!

Thanks for taking a look guys.

Is this a Finch of some type?

It's a tiny bird, I see them all the time on our feeders.

Hi,
That smooth rendering of the background is the natural bokeh this lens produces at 5.6.

Thanks for looking.
This lens was purchased for 10.00 USD and I beleive about 5.00 to ship.
It's a decent lens for the price.

Well, my wife has a bird book so I looked up this bird. It's actually just a common House Sparrow. Very Happy

Some new captures from RAW with the Vorn 200mm @ 4.5

This is a JPEG file,

The in-camera jpeg (?) shows more saturation and much more sharpening. I honestly do not understand why anyone would actually prefer to use jpeg as a choice - despite Ken Rockwell's inane ranting.

I shoot nearly all as jpeg. My habits emphasize high volume and simplicity. Take lots of pictures and some will be good.

Why jpeg ? Because the camera processes them faster, they download faster, they take up less room on my drives, they open and edit faster, they display as thumbnails quickly for sorting, etc. RAW processing just takes too damn long.

And they are nearly as good; shooting RAW only helps in certain situations I find.

I find I like RAW quite a bit.
I do shoot JPEG for simplicity, but I think I'll be leaning towards RAW from now on.

The color managment in RAW is so much better when shooting bright contrasty colors.

Luis
You really do no PP? With your skills I would not be surprised if the answer is no. Mortals such as I need the forgiving nature of the RAW intermediary.

Sure, I do PP on jpeg.

I often touch up the contrast and play with the color balance.

I've even been known to despeckle.

I do the curves stuff on RAW, but its a PITB.
